THE END OF WILDTIME RADIO

After 500 episodes (and some failed attempts at organising and/or recording interviews) I have decided to put the show to rest. Personally I am still working and will continue to work hands-on with animals as well as teaching about animals in workshops and at schools but broadcasting wise I will lay this show to rest.

‘The Zoo next door’ – where tragedy and drama meet

Over three years ago,  Karla Munguia Colme

nero spoke to WILD TIME about the “Zoo Next Door” and her documentary of the same name, which you can view HERE.

She updated us about the situation in May 2012 (listen here) when things had gotten even worse.

Now, just a mere two weeks ago, the announcement came that the Zoo will be closed down and the animals will be confiscated and hopefully rehomed.

Sadly, this won’t be the case after all.

Karla joined us again for the latest in the never ending battle to give the animals in said Zoo some space and piece of mind.

Hong Kong's Dolphins need help

With only 61 Chinese White Dolphins left it seems incomprehensible that the Hong Kong government has sanctioned a third runway for their airport, knowing full well that the dolphins will be affected by this massive infrastructure change.

The dolphins are also at risk due to massive amounts of boats crossing through their territory.

WILD TIME spoke with independent activists Suzette Ackermann and Jaqueline Lee about the situation in Hong Kong.

Protesting WAZA to end the drive hunts in Taiji / Japan

The World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) would have the power to end the cruel drive hunts in the Japanese fishing village of Taiji. WAZA already condemned the drive hunt methods as early as 2004, yet, to date, there is still no binding initiative by WAZA to end the hunts.

WILD TIME talked to activist Daniel Oliver Jost about a protest that will be happening on March 28th 2014 in front of the WAZA headquarters in Switzerland. Ric O'Berry will also be attending.

Surabaya Zoo / Indonesia - the atrocities continue

In September 2013 WILD TIME spoke with Cee4life's Sybelle Foxcroft about the neglect of and cruelty to the animals who have to call Surabaya Zoo their home. Sybelle hasn't given up on the animals there and recently went back offering aid (again) to the zoo but has been rejected by the mayor of Surabaya. What exactly is going on at the zoo, why is the situation so tense and is there anything that can be done about it? Not too long ago a lioness was found hung in her cage, apparently by members or a member of staff. Sybelle believes that this happened to send a warning to all those who fight for a better life for the animals at the zoo. Don't miss this - listen and share widely

E.U. Commission - get off your backside and help the dogs in Romania!

The European Communications Team has sent a very well written letter to the EU commission, pointing out that they are indeed obliged to intervene with regards to the highly controversial and certainly cruel and unnecessary stray dog killings in Romania. WILD TIME spoke to Robert Smith about the letter and the campaign.

Fighting the live export industry

Henry Burns, National Livestock Chairman for the Irish Farmers Association, announced in early 2014 that a strong live export trade is to be expected this year. Reason enough for WILD TIME RADIO to talk to NARA's Laura Broxson about ways to fight the live export industry.

2013 - a year in review

2013 was an exciting year albeit a disturbing one because the topics we have covered in 2013 weren't easy at all and ranged from stray dog killings in Romania, trophy hunting, racism within the animal rights movement, shark finning, films like Blackfish and we even explored the link between animal abuse and human abuse, talked about the illegal wildlife trade and animal testing and, of course, the badger cull.

58 conversations were uploaded online and people listened to our footage 5136 x , which is awesome and shows that even a small entity like WILD TIME can be a voice for animals.

Our most listened to interviews are:

Projet Primates - saving primates in Guinea and elsewhere

Saving Primates in Guinea and elsewhere. Projet Primates includes three associations located in France (Projet Primates France), United States (Project Primate Inc.) and Guinea (Projet Primates Guinée). They joined forces for the preservation of apes and particularly for the operation of a chimpanzee sanctuary in Guinea (Centre de Conservation pour Chimpanzés). WILD TIME’s Thomas Janak talked to Projet Primates director Estelle Raballand about the many threats chimpanzees are facing and more.

The conversation also touches on the use of primates in labs and in the entertainment industry.

Spreading the VEGAN message and more - Cruelty Free X-mas Fair

Organised by the West Midlands Vegan Group, the cruelty free x-mas fair is getting more and more popular and so does veganism and the many food options that are out there for vegans and/or vegan-curious people.

A closer look at animal mutilations - in conversation with Margie Kay

Baffling, bizarre and outright creepy cases of animal mutilations, mainly concerning farm animals, have been reported for at least half a century yet these cases are often times being ignored and/or ridiculed because they are being linked to UFO sightings and unexplained events.

Animals are often found dead with shattered bones (as if they were dropped from above) and with organs and sometimes bodyparts missing that apparently were removed surgically and not, as often stated by the press or officials, through roaming predators. Strangely, very little or sometimes no blood at all is found on the ground near the animal.

Science, as of yet, is at a loss to fully explain what is happening and there seem to be more questions than answers.

Luckily, there are investigators out there that take this topic seriously and have looked into it in-depth.

WILD TIME’s Thomas Janak talked to Margie Kay, publisher of Un-X News Magazine, forensic investigator and Assistant State Director of Missouri MUFON about her two-year investigation into this phenomenon.

Maui and Hector Dolphins - will we lose them forever? In conversation with Earthrace's Paul Moss

LISTEN HERE to an alarming yet informative interview. With only 55 Maui dolphins and roughly 7000 Hector dolphins left, things do not look good for these magnificent sentient beings. Earthrace's Paul Moss (Wellington NZ coordinator) talked to us about the threats they are facing from plastic to trawler boats and more. This conversation touches on many issues from over-fishing to the lack of political will. A must listen.

Bikers 4 Orcas - raising awareness for Orcas in captivity

"Ask any biker what he/she experiences when driving his/her motorcycle and the answer is most likely "freedom". A breeze of wind on your skin, a wide world infront of you and the ability to go wherever you want. Bikers also experience this in a group, a club or a gathering. Like a pack of wolfs... or a pod of orcas.
Looking at orcas makes you realise that us bikers are not really that different. We enjoy our "freedom" and understand others enjoy this too. In a lot of countries bikers greet eachother. A social way of letting the other know we understand what the other is experiencing.

Orcas are also very social creatures. The live in a group (pod) and enjoy the freedom of the wild ocean. Orcas born in captivity probably don't know it at all. Then there are the orcas born free and captured for the amusement of people." (from their official website)

BIKERS4ORCAS is an awareness raising or shall we say “awareness racing” idea that uses the tightness of bikers and the volume of their machines to shout for Orcas.
